Nigeria's Amazing Waterfalls


Breathtaking, eye-catching and majestic are just some of the words you could use to describe one of nature’s most beautiful phenomena: the waterfall. There are a number of waterfalls in Nigeria, these waterfalls might not as famous as Victoria falls in Zambia and Zimbabwe, but they are all unique, amazing, captivating and breathtaking as well. 
 

                                                                      1. Agbokim Waterfalls
  In Cross River State, close to Nigeria’s border with Cameroon. A breathtaking fall of 7 streams, each cascading over steep cliff which provides 7-faced falls. Surrounded by lush greenery, valleys and steep hills. Its freshness is captivating with an alluring serenity plus popular for trekking and hiking.

                                                                      2. Owu Falls.
  Described as the ‘wonders of the wilderness, Located 117km from Ilorin in kwara state is among Africa’s highest waterfall. It cascades 330feet down forming a recurrent stream and at the bottom is a pour of almost ice-cold water. Also surrounded by green vegetation, beautiful rocky part and walk ways.

                                                                  3.  Farin Ruwa Falls.

This natural wonder in Farin Ruwa, Nasarawa but gushes a plateau in Jos. Ruwa fall is  among the highest in Africa standing 150 meters (492feet) during its descent higher than the popular Victoria falls which stands at  108meters (354 feet) during its descent.

                                                                     4. Olumirin Waterfalls.
A natural sauna, in Erin Ijesha, Osun State. The cascading waterfall amidst the soaring mountains, gives a blend of wildlife with tranquility. With seven levels, each with different views. A torturous climb to the peak at the seventh level for an invigorating freshness of the falls, is an unforgettable experience.
5. Kwa Falls.
Located in the Cross River National Park, has its source from the famous Kwa River. A well arranged staircase of 234 steps to the place of cloudy waters gives a tropical rainforest experience while one gazes the churning water of the river and its waterfall.  The park offers  kayaking and hiking opportunities.

6. Kura falls
An exotic man-made fall in Jos, Plateau State . Kurra falls offer tourist accommodation in an area of magnificent scenery and pleasant climate, surrounded by rocks, hills and lakes plus ideal for boating camping and rocking climbing. It is also home of the state’s hydroelectric power station.

                                                                      
7.Gurara Falls. 
At the border of Minna and Suleja, in Niger State. Another breathtaking waterfall especially during rainy season. Its unique feature is its width, an amazing 200meters width. Also a great venue for bird-watchers and can only be reached by trekking on a rough part.
                                                                                
                                                                 8. Assop Water.
Another of nature's gift to Plateau State, about 40 miles from Jos city, on the expressway to Abuja. In a scenic and serene environment, ideal for picnicking, rock climbing and even swimming.
                                                             9.Awhum Waterfall.

Located about 30minutes drive from Enugu in Enugu state. It takes a whooping 45minutes walk from the parking spot to the 30meters high waterfall. Awhum fall is known to be  surrounded by  caves and is believed to have healing powers.
 
10.Matsirga Waterfalls
Situated in Madakiya close to Kafanchan, Kaduna State. Four different waterfalls make up Matsirga falls, each falling 30 meters to form a large pool at the bottom. In beautiful area, lush vegetation and with  a unique shade visitors can relax beside the fall.
