A sheltered
beach, accessible only by boat. With low
tides it’s quite safe for water skiers, surfing and swimming. Visitors to this unique and peaceful
beach can monitor the arrival and mooring of ships at the Lagos Harbor and
Apapa Port.
- Agaja and ILashe Beach, Lagos
An
exclusive beach with a creek right behind it, thus can only be accessed by boat
or canoe. Not much by way of swimming as it is the open to the Atlantic Ocean.
However, It is possible to jet-ski and water ski in the brackish waters of the
creek behind the beach or just enjoy the peace
and tranquility, Ideal for those seeking privacy. The first time I got on a
canoe was to this beach, memorable one for me.
One
of (if not the) longest white sand beach in Western Africa. It’s white sand
dunes that are unaffected by the waves of the Atlantic Ocean and coral reefs
that make it unique. I was at this beach some years ago, I could not
help but marvel at the golf course by the beach, beautiful sight. The Golf
course is owned and maintained by Mobil
Producing Nigeria, golf and beach lovers can both take advantage of.
- Calabar
Beach, Calabar Cross Rivers.
Situated
at the mouth of Calabar river. An uninhabited and isolated beach, lends
visitors the luxury of privacy in a beautiful setting. Flanked by a swamp and
can only be reached by boat or canoe.
- Eleko
beach, Ibeju-Lagos.
Of
the numerous public beaches at the lekki peninsula in Lagos, Eleko beach stands
out because it is quite clean, serene and far from the busy city center.
Lagosian’s new favorite has no traders (just a small market selling interesting art) and little or no distraction like the others. My advices
do not swin at this beach because the waves are heavy and there are no
lifeguards.
- Coconut
Beach Badagry, Lagos.
Also known as suntan beach
in the coastal town of Badagry close to Nigerian Republic or Benin boarder is attractively set in an
area surrounded by coconut trees with a pleasant, friendly and relaxed
atmosphere.
- Port
Harcourt Tourist Beach
An
artificial sand beach along Kolabi creek, this leisure hub has bush-bar
restaurants which offer palm wine, local dishes and entertainment. Also has a
jetty, wildlife display, a museum and games room.
- Elegushi Beach, Lekki- Lagos.
Not
really the cleanest of beaches, might be crowded with too many horses during
the day, however, Elegushi beach is Nigeria’s foremost night beach, with bamboo
Lounges which
turn to clubs at night scattered along the beach. The waves are strong
as well so not advisable to swim.- Atican beach, Ajah- Lagos.
Though a
beach resort,I would consider it a beach because the resort aspect really needs
to be upgraded. However as a beach is it rather clean, not always crowded and
has a safe parking lot. A good place for
lovers of the local palm wine and a reasonable distance from Victoria Island.
If you live in any of these cities go out there and have some fun at any of these beaches, for those that you can only be reached by boat getting there is already half the fun.
